MAROSTICA

Marostica is a medieval village in the province of Vicenza, recognized with the Orange Flag of the Italian Touring Club, which combines history, architecture, landscape, and local traditions.
Thanks to its city walls, perched castles, and the splendid Piazza Castello (known as “Piazza degli Scacchi”), Marostica offers a tranquil yet stimulating experience, ideal for half a day or a relaxing afternoon.

WHAT TO SEE

  • Piazza degli Scacchi: Located in the heart of the historic center, this rectangular square is historic and scenic: it was built in the 14th century and gives its name to the famous reenactment of the “Chess Game with Living Characters.”

  • Lower Castle of Marostica + walls: The castle on the plain and the city walls surrounding the village are typical elements of Marostica’s fortified structure: the view from the walls is panoramic and evocative.

  • Upper Castle of Marostica: Perched on a hill (Monte Pausolino) above the city, it offers a dominant position and a more solitary atmosphere compared to the center, perfect for those who want a scenic walk.

  • The landscape and surrounding hills: Outside the historic center there are routes among vineyards, trails on the hills, and quiet roads ideal for a walk or light hike.

  • Traditions and local products: Marostica is also famous for the production of IGP cherries and as a food and wine destination linked to the flavors of the Veneto foothills.
