CITTADELLA

Cittadella is one of the best-preserved walled cities in Veneto: its medieval fortified walls, on average about 14 meters high and about 1,460 meters long, completely surround the historic center, creating a unique atmosphere.
The city was founded in 1220 by Padua as a military outpost and control point in a territory contested between Padua, Treviso, and Vicenza.
The walkway on the walls: this is the main attraction, where you can walk along the top of the medieval walls, admiring the village, rooftops, and surrounding landscape from an unusual perspective.
The four city gates (Porta Bassano, Porta Treviso, Porta Padova, Porta Vicenza) which provided access to the historic center and are part of the city's defensive system.
The historic center below the walls: with Piazza Pierobon, the Cathedral, the arcades, and medieval alleys, perfect for a relaxing stroll.
The moat that surrounded the walls and still visually marks their perimeter today: an element that reinforces the city's historical identity.
