Cittadella – One of the Best-Preserved Walled Cities in Veneto
Cittadella is one of the best-preserved walled cities in Veneto. Its medieval fortified walls, averaging about 14 meters high and stretching approximately 1,460 meters, completely surround the historic center, creating a unique atmosphere.
The city was founded in 1220 by Padua as a military outpost and control point in a territory contested between Padua, Treviso, and Vicenza.
WHAT TO SEE
The Walkway Along the Walls: The main attraction allows visitors to stroll atop the medieval walls, enjoying panoramic views of the town, rooftops, and surrounding landscape from a unique perspective.
The Four City Gates (Porta Bassano, Porta Treviso, Porta Padova, Porta Vicenza): These gates provided access to the historic center and were an essential part of the city’s defensive system.
